Hilary MaxwellPh.D., C. Psych. (Supervised Practice)
Hilary provides psychological services to individuals and couples with a range of psychological concerns, including: anxiety, depression, trauma and posttraumatic stress, interpersonal and relationship difficulties, grief and bereavement, and adjustment to loss and change.

Hilary works collaboratively with her clients to identify meaningful therapeutic goals. She uses an attachment frame to understand her client’s feelings, thoughts, behaviours, and relationship patterns that are making it difficult to achieve their goals. Hilary provides evidence-based treatment including emotionally focused, interpersonal, and cognitive behavioural therapies for individuals, and emotionally focused therapy for couples. She has a special interest in working with those with operational stress injuries.

Hilary obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Ottawa. She completed her residency with the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group (The Royal) during which she worked at the Operational Stress Injury Clinic, the Schizophrenia Program, and the Community Mental Health Program. During her clinical training, Hilary also worked at The Ottawa Hospital (Eating Disorders Program, Perinatal Mental Health Program), The Royal (Geriatric Psychiatry, Forensic Treatment Unit in Brockville), the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa, and the University of Ottawa’s Centre for Psychological Services. Hilary’s doctoral research examined attachment, reflective functioning, disordered eating, and group psychotherapy. She has presented her research at several international and national conferences and has several peer-reviewed publications. Hilary maintains memberships in national and international professional organizations, and continues her professional development through supervision and consultation, workshops, conferences, and reviewing the scientific literature. Hilary also continues to collaborate on research examining attachment, reflective functioning, disordered eating, therapeutic alliance, and emotionally focused therapy. Hilary is currently registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario as a psychologist in supervised practice. Her work is supervised by Dr. Alison C. Lee C. Psych. In addition to her work at the Ottawa Couple and Family Institute, Hilary works at The Royal’s Operational Stress Injury Clinic.
